Home Girl Scout Beginnings Girl Scout Program Internet Safety Pledge Service Unit News Swaps SU 10-4 Troops

The United States Girl Scouts Organization began in 1912, in Savannah, Georgia.  The first girl Scout troop consisted of only 18 girls.  Over 2.5 million girls are currently participating in Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.; the world's largest organization for girls.  Girls ages 5 through 17 can enroll.  Five levels are offered and an additional level for leaders.   Over the years more than 40 million American women have been members of the Girl Scouts since its founding.

Today, many girls gain a safe, supportive way to participate in projects involving computers and technology, careers, the environment, personal finance, and sports by becoming involved in Girl Scouts.  Girl Scouts is not only a way of getting together with friends for positive, fun experiences, but is also a way to prepare girls for the grownup world they will soon enter.   Girl Scouts helps girls learn to accomplish great things and help themselves and others along the way.
